The Inner Family System (IFS) is the only form of therapy that has made any difference for me, and this book does an excellent job of setting out the process and explanation without getting overwhelmingly wordy and academic. My therapist used this in conjunction with EMDR, but you can do IFS alone with great benefits. Highly recommend. I'm still reading this book so I will hold my overall opinion until I finish it. One troubling issue in the first few chapters is the female bias in the book, primarily with the illustrations - 9 of the 10 'parts' in the first 6 out of 7 illustrations are female, ALL the parts are female in the seventh! The first rebellious part is a headbanging guitar playing smoking teenager that's, you guessed it, female.Then on page 39 is a clear example of misandry - "Multitasker...With the large number of roles that must be filled in today's world, ESPECIALLY BY WOMEN, many people need this part". Really? Does the author forget that 93% of workplace fatalities were of males in 2017, that's not because 'large numbers of roles must be filled especially by women'.Also on page 39 we are introduced to the multi-tasker that looks a lot like the eight armed goddess Ambika, right down to the bracelets on every wrist, which gives a hint of the Eastern influences in the book.
